PEEK gaskets are manufactured from polyetheretherketone, a high-performance engineering thermoplastic designed for sealing under high temperature, high pressure, aggressive chemicals, and continuous mechanical load.
Compared with soft plastics such as PTFE, PEEK offers much higher tensile and compressive strength, excellent creep resistance, and stable dimensions in demanding flange, valve, pump, and instrumentation applications.
High temperature resistance: continuous service around −60 to 260°C for virgin PEEK; short-term peaks up to 300°C depending on grade and load. Melting point about 343°C, glass transition about 143°C.
High mechanical strength: virgin PEEK tensile strength typically 100 MPa; far higher rigidity and load-bearing capacity than PTFE, with low creep under bolt load.
Creep and cold-flow resistance: maintains shape under sustained compression, suitable for high-pressure flanges, valve bonnets, and static seals where soft PTFE may cold-flow.
Chemical resistance: resistant to many acids, alkalis, solvents, oils, fuels, steam, and hot water; excellent hydrolysis resistance. Avoid or verify concentrated nitric/sulfuric acid at high temperature and certain halogenated solvents.
Wear and friction options: virgin PEEK has good wear resistance; carbon-filled PEEK improves wear life, lowers friction in selected conditions, and increases stiffness for dynamic or semi-dynamic service.
Dimensional stability: low moisture absorption, low thermal expansion versus standard plastics, tight CNC tolerances for precision assemblies.
Flame behavior: inherently flame-retardant, typically UL 94 V-0 for qualified PEEK grades.
Clean and specialty grades: food-contact, medical, semiconductor, and antistatic/conductive options available subject to grade and certification.
