PEEK Material

The PEEK GF30 material is a composite of polyetheretherketone with 30% glass fibers added to enhance the tensile modulus, bending modulus, dimensional stability, and heat distortion, among other properties. With a 30% glass fiber reinforcement ratio, it can not only enhance the performance we mentioned earlier, but also retain its impact resistance to the greatest extent. Therefore, PEEK GF30 material is an ideal material for use as a load-bearing hughly insulation support component.
It is Typical values for the grade are 175 MPa tensile strength, 265 MPa flexural strength and an 11.3 GPa flexural modulus (ISO 527 / ISO 178), against 100 MPa tensile strength, 165 MPa flexural strength and 4.1 GPa for unfilled PEEK. The glass reinforcement lifts the heat deflection temperature from 152°C to 315° C at 1.8 MPa, while the coefficient of thermal expansion along flow falls to 18 ppm/K even over Tg. Density is 1.51 g/cm3, continuous service temperature is 260°C, and the material remains UL 94 V-0.

PEEK GF30 performance

PEEK GF30 combines the high-temperature stability of polyetheretherketone with 30% short glass fiber reinforcement, giving a well-balanced profile for load-bearing parts that must hold dimensional accuracy under continuous heat and static load. Typical values for injection-molded grades are 175 MPa tensile strength, 265 MPa flexural strength, 11.3 GPa flexural modulus, an HDT of 315 °C at 1.8 MPa, and a low flow-direction CTE of 18 ppm/K even above Tg. With continuous service up to 260 °C and a UL 94 V-0 rating, GF30 offers a lower-cost alternative to PEEK CF30 while remaining fully electrically insulating. For sliding-wear or high-impact applications, however, unfilled PEEK or carbon-fiber-reinforced grades should be considered instead.

The Advantages Of PEEK GF30?

The PEEK GF30 material is highly suitable as a structural material that can withstand loads continuously at high temperatures. With the addition of glass fibers, its heat distortion temperature reaches 315°C (599°F). When reaching the upper limit of long-term use temperature of 260°C, it still maintains a bending strength of approximately 100 MPa, while the retained bending strength and tensile strength of the unfilled PEEK at this temperature have already been very low.
The performance of PEEK CF30 material at 260°C is similar to that of PEEK GF30 material, and the retained performance is slightly higher than that of PEEK GF30 material. However, the cost of PEEK GF30 is much lower than that of PEEK CF30 material. Therefore, when considering high-temperature loads, creep resistance, PEEK GF30 material is the most ideal material. From the above table, it is worth noting that the linear expansion coefficient of PEEK GF30 material remains at 18 ppm/K even after exceeding the Tg, while the CTE of the unfilled PEEK increases significantly after exceeding the Tg. Therefore, PEEK GF30 material has excellent dimensional stability.
In addition, the bending modulus of PEEK GF30 material increases by +61%, the tensile strength increases by +75%, and the density only increases by 16%. The specific strength is much higher than that of the unfilled PEEK material.

When PEEK GF30 is not suitable for you?

Glass fibers have abrasive properties. When the surface of GF30 comes into contact with softer mating surfaces (such as stainless steel shafts, aluminum casings, and unfilled polymer seals), it will wear down the other material, and the glass fibers may also polish off the surface on the other side. For applications such as sliding wear, reciprocating motion, bearing cages and bushings, carbon fiber grades or this bearing grade PEEK would be more suitable. In these cases, the fibers play the role of a dry lubricant rather than abrasion.

The second situation is impact loading. The elongation at break drops to approximately 3%, so GF30 is not suitable for snap connections, thin hinge mechanisms, press-fit fixtures, and components subjected to impact loading, especially at temperatures below 0°C. Unfilled PEEK or PEEK CF30 can better absorb impact energy.

These limitations do not mean that the performance of PEEK GF30 material is poor. Each model has its own characteristics, and only the material that suits your actual working conditions and cost requirements is the appropriate one.
